And in the woods the road diverged. I took the path less traveled and that has made all the difference.
I borrowed that from Robert Frost in keeping with the original motto of the Quaboag Highlanders, “It’s no’ the traditional way”. We have come to the point where that road has diverged. We must continue to take the path less traveled , as that is what has made us such a unique band. The road behind us was not always smooth. The road ahead of us will not always be smooth. Bear this in mind though, what we do from this point on will make the road smoother for those who follow. Where there is a gap, build a bridge. Where there is a wall, knock it down.
The title and stripes that you have given me would denote that I am your leader. Stripes, titles, or elected offices do not make a leader. Each one of us has the potential to be a leader. A true leader inspires. A true leader passes on what he or she has learned. A true leader gives more than what is expected from others. Many of you have fit this description. A true leader will be judged by deeds and not words.
We have no map for the road ahead. Let our hearts be our compass. Do not walk in front of me. I may not always follow. Do not walk behind me. I may not always lead . But, instead, walk beside me. Your Pipe Major, Terri Adams |
